When Lech Blaine was born his intoxicated father named him after the Polish president. He was raised in a series of run-down pubs across the country with a household of foster brothers and sisters. Blaine published his memoir Car Crash (Black Inc) and The Quarterly Essay: TOP BLOKES: The Larrikin Myth, Class and Power (Black Inc) in 2022. His work has been featured in Best Australian Essays, Griffith Review, Scum, Seizure and The Lifted Brow. In 2017, he won the Queensland Premier’s Young Publishers and Writers Award.
